AB de Villiers has joined Kabuni as a Super Coach ahead of the launch of the platform’s youth cricket initiative in India later this year. The former South Africa captain joins Sourav Ganguly and Shane Watson as part of Kabuni’s growing coaching ecosystem, which combines AI-driven performance analysis with grassroots cricket development.
A Major Addition to Kabuni’s Coaching Line-Up
AB de Villiers has joined Kabuni as a Super Coach, marking another major addition to the AI-powered sports technology platform. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative batters of his generation, de Villiers joins a growing group of Kabuni Super Coaches that already includes Sourav Ganguly and Shane Watson. Further coaching announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
The collaboration strengthens Kabuni’s broader ambition of combining elite cricket expertise with technology-led coaching designed for young players. Through its platform, Kabuni uses biomechanics, motion tracking, and AI-driven performance analysis to provide real-time feedback during training sessions, aiming to make structured coaching more accessible beyond professional environments.
One of Cricket’s Most Influential Modern Players
De Villiers’ arrival comes ahead of the launch of a national tournament this June, where players aged 12 to 16 across India will compete for the chance to represent teams associated with cricketing icons.
For Kabuni, the appointment also brings one of modern cricket’s most recognisable and unconventional figures into its coaching ecosystem.
Over an international career spanning nearly 15 years, de Villiers scored more than 20,000 international runs across formats and became known for redefining the possibilities of batting in all conditions. He remains the fastest player to score a 50, 100, and 150 in One-Day Internationals, including a 31-ball century against the West Indies in 2015 - still the fastest ODI hundred in men’s cricket.
His versatility and range earned him the nickname “Mr. 360,” reflecting an approach to batting built on improvisation, adaptability, and innovation.
Technology Meets Elite Cricketing Intelligence
Speaking about the partnership, de Villiers said the platform’s philosophy aligned closely with how he viewed player development.
Kabuni’s technology is designed to transform traditional net sessions by capturing player movement and ball tracking in real time, translating that information into simple and actionable feedback. Its “1% improvement” philosophy focuses on small technical adjustments and incremental gains over time, particularly for younger players still developing their game.
The platform combines voice, video, and visual feedback systems to make performance insights easier to understand and apply during training.
Building the Next Generation of Cricket Development
Kabuni Founder and CEO Nimesh Patel said de Villiers represented the kind of creative thinking the company wants to bring into youth cricket development.
De Villiers is also expected to appear at Kabuni’s showcase event at the Jio Centre in Mumbai on June 7, where the company will formally unveil its platform and upcoming cricket opportunities for schools, parents, and aspiring players in India.
For Kabuni, the addition of de Villiers is another step toward building a technology-led cricket ecosystem that connects grassroots participation with elite-level learning.
